Typography baby shower invitations

Being an invitation designer means I thoroughly enjoy a good excuse to make invitations for events in the family! Honestly, can you blame me? But, in all truth, it rarely happens because we’re so busy making our deadlines and designs for our clients that we are never able to find the time to make goodies for ourselves. But…this time, we did. So, without further ado, here is the invitation I designed and printed for my baby shower awhile ago.
Colors: Clementine and Aqua
Theme: Typography, patterns, and arrows
The invitation piece (above middle) was printed in orange ink in a fun hand-drawn herringbone pattern. The piece, which folds up to reveal the invitation inside, was adhered to a double-thick backing sheet, printed with a hand illustrated circles pattern in aqua.
Here are some close ups.
The whole suite was bound together with a white dupioni silk ribbon and a little letterpressed tag hanging on orange & white baker’s twine.
The detail cards were held inside a clear wax baggie which was digitally printed with another hand-drawn pattern; dots and lines and a cute “open up” pop of text.
Guests were asked to bring a “well loved or new” book for the baby instead of a card and to write a note to the baby inside the cover. Months later as we’ve begun reading these books to our little boy, Aeland, we absolutely LOVE and CHERISH reading him the adorable sweet notes from our friends and family. It’s a wonderful way to introduce him to all of those people who love him.
We also included a website card and “more details” card inside the little wax baggie.
And last, but not least, we made coordinating “thank you” cards for following up with our guests after the party! And FYI, Aeland’s nursery is still in progress, but it’s on the way toward aqua, orange, patterns, and arrows…just like these baby shower invites.
